Blind-Stamped Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Reprint. 389 p., ports., folded map. Reprinted from the Richmond corrected edition. "The first volume, in this 4 volume set (1862, 1863, 1865, 1866) contains a vitriolic attack on the political history of the United States and a justification for secession. Pollard covers the election of 1860, the Lincoln administration, and the "strength of the revolution." Then he turns to a military narrative of the war's events. This first volume carries the story through to Second Bull Run. It is a straight narrative, undocumented, with battle summaries that run on for many pages. Pollard is highly critical of many commanders on both sides yet could praise even Federal generals on occasion." This is a reprint of the 1862 edition published by West & Johnson , Richmond, VA. Includes Constitution of the Confederate States of America, and Chronology of the war. Pages are clean and tight. Spine is worn particularly at head and tail with three small pieces of cloth chipped from it. [Loc.Rare].
