Section 3 of chapter 274 of the general laws, entitled "Of the bank commissioner," is hereby amended so as to read as follows: "Sec. 3. The bank commissioner shall appoint a deputy commissioner to assist him in the performance of his duties, who shall receive an annual salary Allowance for of thirty-five hundred dollars. The bank commis assistance and expenses. Annual appropriation. sioner may employ such clerical assistance and incur such office expenses and travelling expenses for himself, his deputy and assistants as may be necessary in the performance of his duty at an expense not to exceed annually, the sum of ten thousand dollars. And the sum of five thousand dollars, for the payment of the salary of the bank commissioner and the sum of thirty-five hundred dollars for the payment of the salary of the deputy commissioner are hereby annually appropriated, and a sum not exceeding ten thousand dollars shall be annually appropriated for the payment of the clerical assistance and office expenses of the bank commissioner and for travelling expenses of the bank commissioner, his deputy and assistants; and the state auditor is hereby directed to draw his orders for the payment of said sums, or so much of them as may from time to time be required, upon receipt by him of proper vouchers, approved by the bank commissioner." for carrying out the pro SEC. 2. [2333] AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF AND IN ADDITION TO CHAP- H 736 A. Approved TER 137 OF THE GENERAL LAWS, ENTITLED "OF May 15, 1923. BIRDS." It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 137 of the general laws, entitled "Of birds," is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: Commissioners of birds may grant permit to transport certain birds this state. Birds or game "Sec. 33. The commissioners of birds may grant a permit, under such conditions as they may deem and game into expedient, to any person to transport into the state any birds or other game protected in any manner by the laws of the state and which have been lawfully killed without the state and the transportation of which is lawful. No person shall sell or offer for sale any birds or game held in possession under a permit authorized under the provisions of this section. Any permit so granted may be suspended or revoked by said commissioners. Any person violating any provision of this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than twenty dollars for each bird or game quadruped." held under such permit not to be offered for sale, etc. Penalty. [2334] AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF SECTION 4 OF CHAPTER 76 CHILDREN, AND OF THE ATTENDANCE OF CHILDREN It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Section 4 of chapter 76 of the general laws entitled "Of truant children and of the attendance of children in the public schools," is hereby amended so as to read as follows: "Sec. 4. Every habitual truant, that is, every child who is required under section one of this chapter and of the acts in amendment thereof to attend school and who wilfully and habitually absents himself therefrom; and every habitual school offender, that is, every child who is required to Same subject. attend school under the provisions of section one of this chapter and of the acts in amendment thereof, but who persistently violates the rules and regulations of the school which he attends, or otherwise persistently misbehaves therein, so as to render himself a fit subject for exclusion therefrom, shall be deemed a delinquent child as provided in chapter four hundred four of the general laws, and shall be subject to all the provisions of said chapter four hundred four and may be proceeded against and dealt with as a delinquent child in accordance with the provisions of said chapter four hundred four of the general laws." Section 3 of chapter 329 of the general laws, entitled "Of jurors and juries," is hereby amended so as to read as follows: H 748 A. Exemption of persons from certain officials and classes of serving as "Sec. 3. The following persons shall be exempted from serving as jurors, namely: The governor, lieutenant-governor, secretary of state, attorney- jurors. general, general treasurer, members and officers of the general assembly, state auditor, bank commissioner, deputy bank commissioner, members of the public utilities commission, members of the penal and Same subject. charitable commission, any warden, superintendent or employee in any institution under the management and control of the penal and charitable commission, members of the state board of soldiers' relief, justices of the state and United States courts, clerks of courts, sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, town sergeants, constables with power to serve civil process and members of the paid police force of any city or town, the United States marshal for the district of Rhode Island and his deputies, ministers of the gospel, practicing attorneys-at-law, practicing physicians and surgeons, practicing dentists, overseers in manufacturing establishments, the president, professors, tutors, librarians, registrar and students of Brown University, of Providence College, or of Rhode Island State College, cashiers, treasurers and assistant treasurers of banks and trust companies, school masters, town clerks, telegraphic operators, licensed pilots actually employed in sea service, the keepers of asylums for the poor in the several towns, all persons over seventy years of age, registered pharmacists, and registered assistant pharmacists, so long as they continue in business as such, all persons commissioned, engaged or employed in the service of the United States during their time of service, all persons duly licensed and engaged as undertakers during the time said persons are engaged in such business, all engineers having charge of locomotive engines, stationary engines, or marine engines, all conductors on steam railroads, all engineers or firewards of, the fire departments, and all engineers having charge of steam engines in the several towns and cities, all members of the paid fire department of any city or town, and no person shall be exempted from serving as juror unless as provided in this section, all general |
