A Summary of Chriftian Faith and Practice.

INTRODUCTION.

TH

HAT growing difregard to the glorious Gofpel of the bleffed God, which appears every where among the prefent Profeffors of chriftianity, cannot but deeply affect every one who knows the excellency of this wonderful revelation of divine mercy.

FOR the fake of a chriftian name, multitudes claim the privilege of baptifm; but very few confider what is implied in the chriftian profeffion. The greater part content themfelves with vague fuperficial notions of religion, and are formal and fuperftitious, or carelefs and licentious. Numbers live in the neglect of the duties of private devotion, and fhew much indifference to public worship though they call themfelves chriftians, they walk according to the courfe of this world, fhew little respect to the plaineft commands of the Gospel, and hold no communion with Chrift and his Church in the Lord's fupper; or prophanely proftitute that diftinguishing pledge and feal of our holy profeffion to fecular views. And even among thofe who affume more of the chriftian character, the spirit and power of godlinefs give place too far to the form; and because iniquity abounds, the love of many waxes cold.
