RESOLUTION

To pay expenses in a certain case therein mentioned.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the sum of fifteen hundred and sixty-six dollars and thirty-two cents, be, and the same is hereby appropriated out of any money in the public treasury, not otherwise appropriated, for the payment of the expenses of the reception and entertainment of Louis Kossuth and suite, who visited the capital by invitation of the Legislature as the guest of the State, and that the disbursement of the same shall be made by the committee for his reception, and that any balance left after paying such expenses shall be returned to the public treasury.

RESOLUTION

Authorizing the Governor to employ counsel to prosecute the suit of Elizabeth Parker for her freedom.

WHEREAS, It is believed that a free born girl, named Elizabeth Parker, of Chester county, has been abducted from this State and has been sold into slavery, and is now in the State of Louisiana :

And whereas, Efforts have been made by humane individuals to have the said Elizabeth Parker restored to freedom; therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the Governor be, and he is hereby authorized, if in his opinion, there is reasonable ground to believe that the said Elizabeth Parker was illegally abducted, to employ counsel to prosecute the suit of said Elizabeth Parker for her freedom, in the courts of this Commonwealth or any other State, and further that he is hereby authorized to draw his warrant upon the Treasurer of the State for any money which may be necessary to defray the expenses of prosecuting said suit.

Be it also resolved, That the Governor be authorized to draw his warrant on the Treasurer of the State for all necessary expenses incurred in the suit of Rachel Parker for her freedom now pending in the courts of Baltimore county, in the State of Maryland, in the event that the expenses thereof shall not be awarded to be paid by the county or State aforesaid: Provided, That such expenses shall be limited to the travel and attendance of witnesses: And provided, That the counsel for the Commonwealth shall tax the bill for the same, and make affidavit that the number of witnesses taxed in said bill were necessary and in attendance and that said bill is just and correct.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennnsylvania in General Assembly met, That our Senators and Representatives in Congress be respectfully requested to oppose any

further extension of the Parker patent for cast-iron submerged re-action water wheels.

Resolved, That the Governor be respectfully requested to transmit a copy of the above resolution to our Senators and Representatives in Congress.

RESOLUTIONS

Authorizing the Governor to appoint commissioners to revise the code of Pennsylvania.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Com. monwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the Gover nor be, and he is hereby authorized and empowered to appoint three commissioners, at least two of whom shall be learned in the law, whose duty it shall be to digest and simplify the general tax laws of the State, and to report the same to the next Legislature, and also to prepare drafts of general laws to be submitted to the consideration of the next Legislature on the subject of selling real estate by guardians, execu tors, administrators, and others acting in a representative capacity, on the creation of corporations, the payment of claims against the Commonwealth, to divorces, in order to lessen as much as possible the necessity for special legislation, and the said commissioners shall receive such compensation as the Governor and Auditor General may deem proper, not exceeding five dollars for every day employed in the service of the Commonwealth as aforesaid.

AN ACT

To authorize the Pennsylvania railroad company to extend its lateral road now made from Leibengood's Summit, in Westmoreland county, to the borough of Blairsville, to the borough of Indiana, in the county of Indiana.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Pennsylvania railroad company, be, and is hereby authorized, if they deem it expedient, to extend its lateral road now made from Leibengood's Summit, in Westmoreland county, to the borough of Blairsville, in a northerly direction, to the borough of Indiana, in the county of Indiana; and that hereafter the said lateral road shall be subject to all the provisions of the several acts of Assembly relating to the said Pennsylvania railroad, excepting the toll on tonnage provided for in the twenty-second section of the act of thirteenth of April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-six, entitled "An Act to incorporate the Pennsylvania railroad company."
