AN ACT

To incorporate the Tioga and Elmira Plank Road Company; relative to roads in Oliver and Miller townships, in Perry county; to elections in M'Candless township, Allegheny county; to James M'Combs, of Lancaster county; to streets in the borough of Indiana; and to the pay of poor house directors, of Blair county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Alvah C. Bush, John Arnot, William B. Clymer, Simeon Benjamin, Commissioners. John W. Guernsey, Wright Dunham, Seth Dagget, Stephen L. Parmenter, Hector L. Miller, William Maxwell, David H. Tuthill, Riggs Watrons, Robert Covell, Junior, Samuel B. Strang, William Webb, or any five of them, are hereby appointed commissioners, to open the books, receive subscriptions, and organize a company, by the name, style, and Style. title of "The Tioga and Elmira Plank Road Company," to locate and construct a plank road from the State line, by way of the Miller settlement, and Yeoman's steam mill, to the head of Westbrook creek; thence Location. down said creek to the river road, about two and a half miles below

SECTION 5. That the words "first section," wherever they occur in the sixth and seventh sections of an act entitled "An Act relating to certain school districts and roads in Perry county; and relative to elec tions in the borough of Landisburg, in said county," approved the eleventh day of March, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-one, shall be construed to mean the third section of said act.

SECTION 6. That it shall be the duty of the supervisors of the townships of Oliver and Miller, in the county of Perry, to examine the condition of the public roads in said townships at least once in every month, or oftener if necessary, and if they find that any contractor neglects to keep his section in the condition required by the terms of his contract, they shall give him notice to do so, and if he fail, after ten days, to comply, it shall be duty of said supervisors to repair the same, in the manner provided by the act to which this is a supplement, entitled "An Act relating to certain school districts and roads in Perry county; and relative to elections in the borough of Landisburg, in said county," approved the eleventh day of March, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-one.

SECTION 7. That hereafter the general and township elections, in M'Candless - M'Candless township, in the county of Allegheny, shall be held at the house of Daniel Shoup, in said township.

SECTION 9. That the boundary lines of the borough of Indiana, in the county of Indiana, are hereby extended so as to embrace within the corporate limits of said borough, such territory as is bounded on the east by that part of Mahoning street, which is now opened and extended south of Church street; and on the south by the southern boundary line of said borough, extending eastwardly of Clymer street, until it meets Mahoning street as aforesaid, extended at right angles.

SECTION 10. That from and after the passage of this act, the directors of the poor and of the house of employment, in the county of Blair, shall each receive one dollar and fifty cents per day for every day necessarily employed as directors of the poor and of the house of employment, in said county.

To incorporate the Philipsburg and Glade turnpike road company; relative to the Bellefonte and Philipsburg turnpike company; to the Bald Eagle plank road company; to the supervisors of Harris township, Centre county; relative to the fees of the prothonotary of Lycoming county; and to authorize Charles Allen and Furman Fields to erect a boom in the West Branch of the Susquebanna river.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That William Bagshaw, C. SECTION 7. That the president and managers of the Bald Eagle plank road company, be, and are hereby authorized to borrow a sum of money not exceeding twenty-five thousand dollars, to be used in the construction of the said road, and that they be, and are hereby authorized to issue bonds or certificates of indebtedness, signed by the president, under the seal of said company, in sums not less than one hundred dollars, bearing six per cent. interest, payable semi-annually by the treasurer of the company, or in the city of Philadelphia.

SECTION 8. the relief of Amos Addis," shall be so construed, and the true intent and meaning of the same is hereby declared to be that the prothonotary who entered the acknowledgments of the treasurer's deeds, for the lands sold at the treasurer's sales, of unseated lands in Lycoming county, in June, one thousand eight hundred and fifty, shall be allowed and enti tled to receive from the late treasurer of said county, the same fees for so doing that were allowed prothonotaries for entering the acknowledgment of treasurer's deeds, by the act of the thirteenth of March, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen, and that the fees thereafter to be allowed to the prothonotary of said county for similar services, shall be the same that are authorized by the act last aforesaid.

SECTION 11. That Charles Allen and Furman Field, of the county of Lycoming, their heirs and assigns, be, and they are hereby authorized of and empowered to erect and maintain on the West Branch of the river Susquehanna, from an island owned by said Furman Field, to adjoin the land of the said Charles Allen, such boom or booms with piers, as may be necessary, for the purpose of stopping and securing logs, masts, spars, and other lumber floating upon said river, and to erect such piers, side branch, or shear booms at the west end of said island, as may be necessary for that purpose: Provided always, That the said boom piers, &c., shall be erected and maintained under the like restrictions, and limitations, and with the same powers and authorities (excepting the corporate powers) granted to John Leighton, and his associates, by an act entitled "An Act to incorporate the Susquehanna boom company," passed the twenty-sixth day of March, eighteen hundred and forty-six.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That

John Sawers; thence along said ridge to the head waters of Beaver run, on the east side of Mathias Alexander's farm; thence down said run to the mouth of Porter's run; thence along the Saltsburg road to the crossing of the Greensburg road; thence along said road to the Washington township line, at or near Jacob Rugh's; thence along said line to the Franklin township line; thence along said township line to the Hempfield township line; thence along said line to the place of beginning, shall compose an election district for general and township election purposes, and hereafter the general and township elections shall be held at the school house in the borough of New Salem, in said district, and John Zimmerman is hereby appointed judge, and Robert Young, and George M'Laughlin, inspectors to hold the first election which shall be held on the second Tuesday of October next, and said elections shall in all cases be governed by the election laws of this Commonwealth, and that the judges of said township elections of the said New Salem district and Salem township, shall, on Monday after such elections, meet at the house now occupied by Adam Coole, in Salem township, and then and there cast up the votes given for the several candidates and make return thereof agreeably to the election laws of this Commonwealth.
