The Editor of the Sermons contained in the two following volumes, thinks it right to state that some of them had been selected by Dr. Parr himself for publication many years before his death; and fragments of an intended preface have been found, of which the largest, and most corrected portion, will be seen at the end of this address. Dr. Parr's motives for not carrying into effect the intention stated in the fragment alluded to, are not distinctly known. They probably may have arisen partly from the irksomeness of selection, and the difficulties of transcription, at a time when the Doctor could ill afford to pay an amanuensis, and partly from his improved circumstances, which
have made this mode of increasing his income unnecessary. The Editor knows that he has now published some of those which were selected by Dr. Parr himself, but has reason to believe that several of those now pub,
