Watson, with the assistance of the citizens of Oxford. They left that town on Friday, June 28, for their regiment, which was then encamped at "Camp Scott," Worcester. Col. Organized subsequent to the nineteenth of April, 1861, in Grafton, and, after the battle of Ball's Bluff, recruited in part by the efforts of citizens, and at the expense of that town. The company was furnished with uniforms and other clothing, and a variety of useful articles, also each commissioned officer with a sword, belt, sash, and epaulets, at the expense of the town, the garments being made up by the patriotic ladies of that place. Each member of the company was also presented with a pocket edition of the New Testament and Psalms, by the Sabbath School connected with Rev. Mr. Biscoe's church. On the 28th of June, when they left Grafton, to join their regiment at Camp Scott, Worcester, there was a great public demonstration commenced in the Town Hall, but adjourned, on account of the crowd, to the common, where addresses were made by the several clergymen of the place, and the garments and other articles made up for them by the ladies were presented to them. Escort duty was performed by the engine companies and a large concourse of citizens. The company went into the action at Ball's Bluff only three men short of a full comple ment. This company was partly recruited at a meeting of the citizens of the town of Webster, held April 20, 1861, and partly by a committee who were appointed by the meeting, for this purpose. The town furnished the company with uniforms, and contributed $1,000 towards paying their expenses while drilling, and individuals of the town also made up a purse for them, of about $1,000 more. Mr. Win. T. Shumway presented them with a beautiful flag, and on the day of their departure for Camp Scott, at Worcester, almost every resident turned out to bid them farewell.
