The amounts of commutation money received by receivers thereof (collectors of internal revenue) under the act of March 3, 1863, and deposited by them with the United States Treasurer, assistant treasurers, and designated depositaries, &c., to your credit, as Provost Marshal General, from July 18, 1863, the date of the first transaction, to February 23, 1864, the date at which the final balance remaining in your hands was turned over to the Treasurer of the United States in compliance with the joint resolution aforesaid, are as follows:

MONEY LEFT BY DESERTERS, ETC.

Amount received by Brigadier General Denvers, from a substitute who obtained a furlough to visit his family under the pretence that they were in distress, and never returned. The amount was turned over to Charles P. Huntington, receiver, second district Massachusetts, and by him deposited to your credit with the assistant treasurer at Boston, (as draft and substitute fund)

Amount left with light-house keeper on Long Island by two (2) men who attempted to desert and were arrested. The amount was turned over to Charles P. Huntington, receiver, second district Massachusetts, and by him deposited to your credit with the assistant treasurer at Boston, (as draft and substitute funds)

Amount taken from the person of a substitute in the third dis-
trict, New York, who proved to be a deserter. The amount
was turned over to Henry C. Bowen, receiver, third district
New York, and by him deposited to your credit with the
assistant treasurer at New York, (as draft and substitute
funds).

Amount left by a substitute with Captain Hiram Dryer as se-
curity for his return to camp and forfeited by desertion. This
amount was deposited to your credit with the assistant treas-
urer at Boston, (as draft and substitute funds)..
Amount transferred to Captain Hiram Dryer by the district court
of Massschusetts as refunded bounties of men discharged
on writs of habeas corpus and by him deposited to your credit
with the assistant treasurer at Boston, (as draft and substi-
tute funds)..

Farquhar, mustering and disbursing officer, Indianapolis, Indiana, being the amount of his check, No. 44, dated December 15, 1863, on assistant treasurer at New York, in your favor, in exchange for your check on depositary at Cincinnati, being No. 1, dated December 12, 1864..

There has been disbursed, refunded, and turned over to mustering and disbursing officers and the Treasurer of the United States, as follows:

INCIDENTAL EXPENSES.

Amount reimbursed to receivers of commutation money for expenses incurred by them for stationery, blanks, express charges, exchange, postage, &c..

PERCENTAGE.

Amount disbursed to receivers in payment of percentage allowed them in conformity with the rates established November 4, 1863..

REFUNDED.

Amount refunded to persons who had paid commutation money and afterwards were exempted by boards of enrolment for various causes.

The proper accounts and vouchers for the disbursement, &c., of all funds deposited to your credit on account of draft and substitutes were forwarded to the Second Comptroller of the United States treasury, June 7, 1864, for his action thereon, and after due examination having been found to be correct, met with his approval.

Instructions were forwarded receivers of commutation money under date of January 28, 1864, (they had been instructed by telegraph previously,) to deposit all commutation money received thereafter to the credit of the Treasurer of the United States, and there has been deposited by them to his credit the following amounts:
