On motion of Mr. M‘Kim, Resolved, That the Secretary of the Treasury be directed to report to this House what progress has been made in preparing a digest of the arts and ma nufactures of the United States, from the returns reported to him by the marshals, as directed by a joint resolution of both Houses of Congress, in Fe. bruary, 181%

Tbe Speaker laid before the House a resolution of the general assembly of the Presbyterian church, appointing for the churches under their care a day to be set apart as a day of humiliation, fasting and prayer.

Ordered, That the said resolution do lie on the table.

The House again resolved itself into a committee of the whole House on the report of the Committee of Elections, on the petition of William Kelly, of Tennessee, contesting the election and return of Thomas K. Harris; and after some time spent there in, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Lewis reported, that the committee had, according to order, again had the said report under consideration and agreed to the resolution therein contained, amended to read as follows:

Resolved, T'hat three months be allowed to the parties respectively to procure testimony relative to the said election,

The House proceeded to consider the said report, and on the question to concur with the committee of the whole House in their amendment to the resolu. tion,

It passed in the affirmative.

The question was then taken to concur in the said resolution as amended,

WEDNESDAY, June 2. 11. On motion of Mr. Kennedy, Ordered, That the petition of Siston, presented on the 16th of February, 1. ferred to the Committee of Ways and As.

On motion of Mr. Cheves, Ordered, That the petition of Daniel Macauly, presented on the 25th of February, 1813, be referred to the Committee of Ways and Means.

The Speaker laid before the House a report from the Secretary of War on the petition of Henry Har. ris, which was read and referred to the Committee of Claims.

A message from the Senate by Mr. Otis, their Secretary.

Mr. Speaker: The Senate Jiave passed a bill 66 concerning certain streets in Georgetown," in which they desire the concurrence of this House.

'The sail bill was read the first time; and, on mo. tion, the said bill was read the second time, and ordered to be read the third time this day.

The said bill was then read the third time and passed.

Ordered, That the Clerk do acquaint the Senate therewitb.

On motion of Mr. Clopton, Resolve, That the Committee on the Post-office and l'ost-roids be instructed to inquire into the ex. pediency of establishing a post-route from Hanover court-liquse to New Kent court-house, so as to pass through Hanover Town, in the state of Virginia.

A motion was made by Mr. M.Lean, that the House do come to the following resolution :

Resolved, That the Committee on Military Af. fairs lse instructed to inquire into the expediency of making sonuc provision for the widow's and orphans of the militia slain by the enemy, or who may here. after le siiin by them during the present war, while in the actual service of the United States, and for whose families no provision exists by law, and that they report by bill or otherwise :

And that the Committee of Claims be instructed to inquire whether any provision ought to be made for the indemnification of those persons who had

property taken into the service of the north western army, under the command of general Hull, and whichi, in consequence of his surrender of the garri. son at Detroit, fell into the hands of the enemy, and that they report by bill or otherwise.

T'he question was iaken on agrecing to the first member of the resolution,

And passed in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the second mcmber of the said re. solution olo lie on the table.

The llouse resolved itself into a committee of the whole flouse on the bill from the Senate,“ supplementary to the acts heretofore passed on the subject of an uniform rule of naturalization;" and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Desha reported, that the committee had, according to order, had the said bill under consideration and made no aincndment thereto.

Ordered, That the said bill do lie on the table.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole House on the bill to increase the capital stock of the bank of Washington ; and afier some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Breckenridge reported, that the commiitee had, according to order, had the said bill under consideration and made no amendment thereto.

On motion of Mr. Grundy, The said bill was then ordered to lie on the table.

And then the House adjourned until to-morrow morning, eleven o'clock.

Mr. Hempstead appeared and took his scat as the delegate from the Slissouri territory; the oath to support the constitution of the United States being first administered to him by the Speaker.
