CHRISTIANS "ought always to pray:" and the Fathers of the Church explain this by saying that Christians ought to pray at those appointed hours observed both under the Law, and called the "Hours of the Temple," and under the Gospel, and called the "Canonical Hours." St. Jerome takes it for a thing which everybody knows, that no godly Christian neglects the observance of such hours. "Seven times a-day do I praise Thee," said holy David, "because of Thy righteous judgments."* The following Hymns måy be used at the SEVEN HOURS OF DAILY PRAYER:-- (1) AT MATINS.
