The Sunday School World for May appears in a neat cover, into which is packed the usual number and variety of valuable articles found in this excellent Sunday school monthly--Rev. Charles S. Robinson, D.D., treats on "Lesson Helps;" Rev. George E. Post, Syria, of "The Fig Tree;" Rev. William Ormiston, D.D., sketches the character of "Elisha;" Mrs. W. F. Crafts explains "The Kindergarten," as applied to Sunday schools. Added to these are Dr. John Hall's Lessons, Mrs. Knox's "Primary Talks;" Lessons Applied; a Bible Concert Exercise, and the usual editorials, making an interesting, varied and valuable amount of reading for the Sunday school worker which he would find it difficult to procure elsewhere at three times the cost of The World.

This journal has taken a new departure. It was established as a means of giving better expression in this country to two important tendencies of the present age; first, the greatly increased activity of scientific inquiry, and second, the growing habit of the leading minds to contribute their choicest intellectual works for periodical publication." It finds the material growing so rapidly upon its hands that in addition to the regular monthly there will be a monthly supplement issued, beginning with June. The supplement will be of the same style, and almost the same size, as the monthly. Subscription price $3, or both for $7.

The American Naturalist.

This standard monthly maintains its position as the leading purely scientific journal in this country. Its visits are as welcome as they are regular. Take it one year and you will continue your subscription.

The Sanitarian. P. O. Box 1959, New York.

A monthly magazine published in the interests of health. The subjects of house ventilation, drainage and cleanliness are handled in a common sense

manner.

Hall's Journal of Health. 137 Eighth street, New York.

LIVE TEACHERS should subscribe for The New York School Journal, of New York City. It is published weekly; it is long established; it is practical and popular.

For the practical teacher it is unexcelled; its writers are in the fore front of the battle, toiling, yet successful teachers. Every department is represented from the kindergarten to the college. Especially will it reflect with accuracy the methods of the New York City public and private schools.

NOTE. It was furnished for several years to the teachers of the public schools of New York at the expense of the city, so highly was it prized. The modern methods of teaching, the freshest views, the best and most practical ideas, the most earnest thinking, all find a place in its pages.

Public Schools in the United States, by State enactments or School Officers.

More than ten millions of volumes of School Books are annually published in the United States, recognizing Webster as their general standard of orthography, while not a single school book publishing house in the country, as far as we are aware, has ever publicly recognized any other Dictionary than Webster as its standard of orthography, with the single exception of the publishers of another Dictionary. While in Etymology, Definitions, Illustrations, &c., Webster stands unrivaled and alone.
