(5) expresses concern about possible Iranian pre-
duetion of chemical weapons and urges the President

to make appropriate diplomatie efforts to prevent Iran
from developing or using chemical weapons; and

(6) urges the President to intensify American of
forts at the Geneva Conference on Disarmament and in
bilateral discussions with the Soviet Union to reach at
the earliest possible date an arms control agreement
banning the use, production, development, stockpiling,
transfer, and acquisition of chemical weapons.

That the House of Representatives-

(1) condemns the persistent use of chemical weapons

by Iraq and declares that such action violates

international law;

(2) calls upon Iraq to halt immediately and permanently the use of all chemical weapons;

(3) commends the President for his prompt condemnation of Iraq's March 16, 1988, chemical weapons attack on civilians;

(4) urges the President to seek allied cooperation to

further tighten controls on the export of chemical
compounds to countries seeking to develop a chemical
weapons capability;

(5) expresses concern about Iranian use of chemical weapons and urges the President to make appropriate diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from developing or using chemical weapons; and

(6) urges the President to continue to pursue American efforts at the Geneva Conference on Disarmament and in bilateral discussions with the Soviet Union to reach an arms control agreement banning the use, production, development, stockpiling, transfer, and acquisition of chemical weapons.
