N the Confeffion of the Faith of the Greek Church, compil'd by a Synod at Fafs in Moldavia, and confirm'd by another at Conftantinople in the prefence of all the four Patriarchs, we have thefe words, in anfwer to this Queftion, "What "is fecondly implied by our profeffing to believe "in the Holy Catholick Church?

Ὅτι παρ εδενὸς τόπε ἡ καθολικὴ ἐκκλησία εἴληφε τόνομα. Αι γδ' τοπικαὶ μερικαὶ εἰσιν, οἷὗ ἡ ἐν Ἐφέσῳ, ἡ ἐν Ἀντιωχεία, ἡ ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις, ἡ ἐν Ρώμη, ἡ ἐν Αλεξανδρείᾳ, καὶ αἱ λοιποί, &c.

Against the Primacy and Supremacy of the Pope, there are various Tracts in my Collection of this Sort. But for a Specimen of their Opinions in this matter, take the following words of the prefent Patriarch of Ferufalem, in his Preface to his Edition of the Τόμ ἀγάπης.


Μήτε ὁ Κωνσαντινεπόλεως, μήτε οἱ λοιποι παίρι άρχαι, μήτε ἄλλῳ τις ὀρθόδοξα ἐφρόνησε ποτὲ τὶ ἔχῃ ἡ ἐκκλησία Κωνσαντινεπόλεως ἐν τῇ καθόλες ἐκε κλησία μοναρχικόν, ἡ αὐτοκρατορικὸν, ἡ γενικὸν ἀξίω ท์ ἀλλ ̓ ἔσι κεφαλὴ προπονεσα και μόνων. * τάξιν, ἅπερ καὶ αὐτὸ μέγα τι δεῖν ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησία. Ελα φρονείτω, οἱ παπιςα, ὅτι ὁν τρόπον ἡ ἀνατολική Εκκλησία λέγε † Κωνσαντινεπόλεως πρώτον και κεφα λω - Εκκλησίας, και * τρόπον τέτον, ὅτι καὶ ὁ ἐπί σκοπα Ρώμης πρώτα και κεφαλὴ ἢ ἐκκλησίας, και δεχόμεθα - Ρώμης πρῶτον ει και κεφαλίω ἐν τῇ ἐκ

κλησία. Αλλ' ε προσέχουν) τότο: ἄρα καὶ ἡμεῖς τ παραδεχέμια - Ρώμης ἔτε πρώτον, ἔτε κεφαλίω, ετε μ' διόλα ἐπίσκοπον ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ.

In another Tome published by the fame Patriarch, under the Title of Tou nalMayns thefe are the Summaries of particular Chapters.

Ὅτι ἐ μόνον ὁ † πρεσβυτέρας Ρώμης θρόνου απο κολικός καλεί), αλλα και κας @ ? ἄλλων Πατριαρ χικῶν θρόνων.

Ὅτι μία καθολικὴ καὶ αποςολικὴ ἐκκλησία, ἐχή τ πρεσβυτέρας Ρώμης λέξεις, ἀλλ' ἡ οἰκεμβύης πάσης * ὀρθοδόξων.
