The aims of the Association are:

(a) To promote the due recognition of English as an essential element in the national education.

(b) To discuss methods of teaching English and the correlation of School and University work.

(c) To encourage and facilitate advanced study in English literature and language.

(a) To unite all those who are interested in English studies; to bring teachers into contact with one another and with writers and readers who do not teach; and to induce those who are not themselves engaged in teaching to use their influence in the cause of English as a part of education.

The Association should therefore appeal

(a) To every one concerned, whether as teacher, examiner, or inspector, with the teaching of English as an element in University, Secondary, or Primary Education.

(3) To persons engaged in literary work.

(c) To persons interested in the study of English literature or of the English language, or in the improvement of education in these subjects.

The Association and its local Branches hold meetings during the year, at which lectures are given, or papers are read, or discussions are carried on.

The Association issues yearly three or more Pamphlets on literary subjects and matters connected with the teaching of English, and three Bulletins containing bibliographies of new publications, together with a report of meetings held, and other information likely to be of interest to members. These publications are issued gratis to members.

The ordinary subscription is 55. a year, and the fee for life membership £3 35. Full information will be given to intending members by the Secretary, Imperial College Union, Prince Consort Road, South Kensington, S. W. 7.
