40.

Myrrh and spices will I bring,
True affection's offering;

Close the door from sight and sound
Of the busy world around;

And in patient watch remain
Till my LORD appear again.

Still with Thee their Sabbath keep,
They who 'neath the Altar sleep;
Scarce a day perchance doth seem
The time of their unbodied dream,
"Twixt their rest from labour past
And their waking at the last.
Then, the new creation done,
Shall be endless rest begun,
JESU! keep me safe from sin,
With Thee may I enter in ;
Danger past, and toil at end,
To Thy Resting-place ascend.

[blocks in formation]

In yon still grave art keeping!
All Thy Labour now is done,
Past is all Thy Weeping!
The strife is o'er,

Nought hurts Thee more,
The Heart at last hath slumber'd,
That in conflict sore for us

Bore our sins unnumber'd.

Amen.

Thou awful tomb,

Once fill'd with gloom! How blessed and how holy

Art thou now,

since in the grave

Slept the SAVIOUR Lowly!

How calm and blest

The dead now rest,
Who in the LORD departed!
All their works do follow them,
Yea, they sleep glad-hearted.

O blessed Rock!

Soon grant Thy flock

To see its Easter morning!

Strife and pain will all be past When that Day is dawning. Amen.

ESUS CHRIST is risen to-day, Alleluia!

JESUS

Our triumphant Holy Day,

Alleluia!

Who did once, upon the Cross,

Alleluia !

42. Our souls triumphant say;
HE LORD is risen to-day,
Behold, He leaves the grave,
Omnipotent to save:

Let Heaven and earth their music bring
To hail the world's redeeming King.

The LORD is risen, to bless
Mankind with righteousness;
To make His Grace abound

Where'er the curse is found;
That sinners may have cause to sing
The saving glory of their King.

The LORD is risen, and all

His enemies must fall;
His Triumphs shall be sung
By men of every tongue :

With songs the Universe shall ring
In praise of our all-conquering King.

The LORD is risen, and we
Shall share His Victory;
We die; but we shall rise

Through Him and mount the skies;

And then the Church in Heaven shall sing Her dying, rising, reigning King.

THE

HE Day of Resurrection!
Earth! tell it out abroad!

The Passover of Gladness!
The Passover of GOD!
From death to Life eternal,

From earth unto the sky,
Our CHRIST hath brought us over,
With hymns of victory.

Our hearts be pure from evil,

That we may see aright

The LORD in rays eternal

Of Resurrection-Light:

And, listening to His accents,

Amen.

May hear, so calm and plain,
His own-All Hail !—and hearing,
May raise the victor strain!

Now let the Heavens be joyful!
Let earth her song begin!
Let the round world keep triumph,
And all that is therein :
