Q. 13. Should not the afflicted

Christian be comforted, when he thinks on the creating power of God?

A. Yes; under all his troubles, he should rejoice in the thought, that his Heavenly Father is able to supply his wants; for he made all things, and therefore the earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof.

Q. 14. And may we not take encouragement to hope, that God will give us his Spirit, and make us new creatures?

A. Yes; for "He who commanded the light to shine out of darkness," can, and will, if we ear

nestly pray to him, shine in our hearts, to

give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2d Cor. 4. 6.

* Q. 15. Should we doubt any thing which God has promised, if we really believe in him as the Creator of heaven and earth?

A.-No for nothing is too hard for the Lord.

* Q. 16. He who made the world, is able to strengthen the feeblest soul, and to bless all that humbly wait upon him: is he not?

A. Yes; They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength." (Is. 40. 26-31) Note. The whole passage is to be learned by heart.

* Q. 17. And he who created us at first, can he also raise us from the dead?

A. Yes; for though worms shall have destroyed our bodies, God can as easily raise us from a state of corruption, as he could at first make us out of nothing.

* Q. 18.-Have we all walked humbly with God, and served and feared him as our Creator? A. By no means; we have sinned grievously against him and instead of seeking His glory who made us, we have done our own will,

* Q. 19.-How should the thought of this affect us ?

A. It should fill us with shame and sorrow, and cause us to bless God for the unspeakable gift of his Son Jesus Christ.

* Q. 1.-Why was our Lord called by this

name?

A. The name was given by command of the angel, who foretold his birth. "Thou shalt call his name JESUS." Matt. 1. 21.

Q, 2.-Was any part of Scripture fulfilled by this?

A. Yes; this was done that the Scripture. might be fulfilled, which said that his name should be called IMMANUEL, IS. 7. 14.

* Q. 3 Is the name IMMANUEL then the

same as JESUS?

A. The words are different, but their meaning is nearly the same.

* Q. 4. Tell me the meaning of these

names.

A. The meaning of IMMANUEL is, God with us; the meaning of JESUS is, God our Saviour; or God shall save.

* Q. 5.~How does it appear that these names have the same meaning?

A. Because in the person of JESUS, God was really with us, and amongst us, as our Saviour.

Q. 6. Was the name of JESUS given to any person before Christ came into the world?

A. Yes; the name Joshua is exactly the same as JESUS.

Q. 7-Who was Joshua ?

A. He was the captain and ruler of the Israelites, who led them into Canaan, and fought at their head, and settled them in the promised land.

Q. 8. Was he their Saviour, in the same sense as Christ is our Saviour?

A. By no means; he only conquered their earthly enemies, and brought them into an
