The Directors of the Boston and Lowell Rail-road Corporation, do hereby make their Tenth Annual Report of their acts and doings, receipts and expenditures, under their act of incorporation.

The amount divided during the past year is $132,000, being two dividends of four per cent. each, on a capital of $1,650,000, which was the amount of capital paid in at the time the dividends were declared.

Since the last annual report, four miles more of the second track have been finished and put in use.

The amount expended for this purpose, for additional

depots, engines, and cars, and towards the completion of the remaining portion of the second track has been, Whole amount expended on the cost of the Road and appurtenances, at the time of the last annual report,

The second track is now in use for a length of about 21 miles. About 5 miles more are required to complete this track for the whole distance between Boston and Lowell. On this portion, operations have been commenced, and the whole will probably be finished in the course of the coming summer.

N. B. The Annual Report for the year 1837, which should have been numbered the seventh, was called the sixth. The error is corrected in the title of the present Report.

RAIL-ROAD CORPORATION.

To the Honorable Legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts:
The Directors of the Boston and Portland Rail-road Corporation
do hereby make their Sixth Annual Report of their acts and doings,
receipts and expenditures, under their act of incorporation.
During the past year, they have completed their depot buildings,
built a stone bridge over the Little River, in Haverhill, made addi-
tional security to protect the bridge crossing the Merrimack river from
ice, and put down side tracks where necessary.

This corporation commenced the use of the Boston and Maine Railroad, which connects with this Road at the line of the State of New Hampshire, on the first day of January, 1840, under a contract made with that corporation, a copy of which was submitted to the Legislature, in their fourth annual report. It was conditioned in this contract, that "if the said Road shall be constructed to any town beyond Exeter, the contract is to be void." That corporation having determined to extend the Road beyond Exeter, this corporation have entered into a new contract with the Boston and Maine Rail-road Corporation, for its use, when completed to Dover, in New Hampshire. A copy of the contract is appended to this Report,
