THE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, the Text formed from a new Collation of early Editions: to which are added all the original Novels and Tales on which the Plays are founded; copious archæological Annotations on each Play; an Essay on the Formation of the Text; and a Life of the Poet: by JAMES HALLIWELL. 16 vols., folio, with many INDIA PROOF plates, facsimiles, and illustrations in the text, by F. W. Fairholt; hf. bd., 1853-65 75 0 0

This magnificent edition of Shakespeare was limited to 150 copies; to it Mr. Halliwell-Phillipps devoted the best efforts of his life. His object was to bring together everything from those relics of the Elizabethan age which have descended to the present time, that had a bearing upon, or illustrated the works of our national poet. In graphic illustrations he had the assistance of that eminent antiquary, Frederick William Fairholt, whose name is a guarantee for their accuracy.
