NORMAN AND SON, PRINTERS, FLORAL STREET, COVENT GARDEN. With Descriptive Notices by Vincent J. Robinson, and a Preface by Sir George Birdwood. Printed in Colours by W. Griggs after Water-Colour Drawings by E. J. Robinson. London: BERNARD QUARITCH, 15 Piccadilly, W. The above consists of twelve representations of the very finest specimens of Silk, Moultan, Spanish, Afghan, Sicilian, Shuster, Goa, and Laristan Carpets. Its production is the result of the success attending the publication of the now extremely rare First Series in 1882, which was undertaken at the instigation of Sir George Birdwood as a means of furnishing a record of some of the choicest productions of the Eastern looms. This series being in no way inferior to its predecessor in point of finish, richness of colouring, and in the beauty of the original designs, gives me every confidence in predicting for it, the same, or even a greater success. Five hundred copies only have been printed, and the stones destroyed. A few copies have been secured by me of the exceedingly rare and important First Series of EASTERN CARPETS, With Descriptive Notices by Vincent J. Robinson, and a Preface by Sir George Birdwood. Printed in Colours by W. Griggs after Water-Colour Drawings by E. J. Robinson, royal folio, in a portfolio, £10 1882 "No pains have been spared to make this sumptuous folio as perfect as possible. It is beautifully printed on Van Gelder's paper; the articles chosen for illustration are thoroughly characteristic, and are rendered in the most admirable way; and both the special description by Mr. Vincent Robinson and the general preface by Sir George Birdwood are scholarly and interesting pieces of work. Of the illustrations, indeed, we may safely endorse Sir George Birdwood's statement that 'Oriental carpets have never before been so tastefully painted in print, nor truer to themselves.'"-The Times, June 2nd, 1882. "Mr. Vincent Robinson gives twelve illustrations from original watercolour sketches. They are printed in colours with astonishing delicacy by Mr. Griggs. They are a marvel of clearness and brilliancy without the least hardness of outline, and the way in which the texture is reproduced is truly admirable."-Saturday Review, August 26th, 1882.
