DUTCH SCHOOL, ****00000 WYNANTS. *** MUNICH GALLERY,

DOE

LANDSCAPE,

A HUNTSMAN WITH A LADY ON HORSEBACK.

We cannot resist the desire to sketch this charming production of Wynants, though we are aware that an etching can give no adequate idea of its beauty. This artist, who was the master of Wowermans and Vande Velde, is particuJarly distinguished for the skilful distribution of light, which he often diffuses over different parts of his pictures, without destroying the unity of the effect. Happily chosen and well coloured sites, in general, sandy; with brilliant skies and trees with fine foliage; give a beauty to his works, that makes them eagerly sought.

The foreground of this piece is animated by a cavalier and a lady, on their way to the chace. They are preceded by a valet carrying a frame with a number of falcons; and followed by another valet, with three dogs. The figures, are not by Wynants: probably they were executed by his pupil Wowermans.

This picture belonged to the Bipontine Gallery, and is now in that of Munich. There is a superior lithographic print of it by Sedlemayrder.

Height, 2 feet 1 inch; width, 1 feet 8 inches.
