Pride.

41. Pride againf God. Exod. xviii. 11. The Lord is greater than all Gods, for in the Thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them. Compare Exod. 9. 17.

Pf. x. 4. The Wicked through the Pride of his Countenance will not feek after God, God is not in all his Thoughts. See Jer. 43. 2. lxxiii. 6. The Pride of the Wicked compaffeth them about as a Chain.

Ver. 9. They fet their Mouth against the Heavens, and their Tongue walketh through the Earth.

Ver. 11. They fay how doth God know, and is there Knowledge in the most high?

Ver. 18. Thou caftedft them down.

cxix. 21. Thou haft rebuked the Proud that are cursed, which do err from thy Commandments. Ifa. 14. 4. to 24, See the Pride and Fall of Babylon.

42. Pride against Men. Pf. x. 2. The Wicked in his Pride doth perfecute the Poor,

2 Kings x 16. Come fee my Zeal for the Lord, faid Jehu.

Ifa lxv iii. A People that provoketh me to Anger continually. Ver. 5. Say, ftand by thyfelf, come not near to me, for I am holier than thou, these are a Smoke in my Nofe, a Fire that burneth all the Day.

Luke xviii. 9. They trust in themselves that they are righteous and defpife others.

Ver. 11. The Pharifee faid, God, I thank thee that I am not as other Men are, Extortioners, unjuft, Adulterers, or even as this Publican;

2 Cor. x. 12. They commend themselves; but they measuring themfelves by themselves, and comparing themselves, among themselves, are not wife.

45. The Proud feek Honour from Men. Prov. xxv. 6. 7. They put themselves in the Place of great Men.

Matt. xxiii. 6. They chufe the uppermoft Rooms at Feafts, and the chief Seats in the Synagogues, Luke 14. 7.

Ver. 7. They love to be called of Men Rabbi, Rabbi.

John v. 44. They feek Honour of Men, and not the Honour that cometh from God only.

xii. 43. They love the praise of Men more than the praise of God. See Inftances. Haman, Efther. 3. 5.-5. 5. &c. and Naman the Asfyrian, 2 Kings 5. 11 to 15.

46. Threats and Prayers against the Proud. 1 Sam. ii. 3. Talk no more fo exceeding proudly, let not Arrogancy come out of your Mouth, for the Lord is a God of Knowledge, and by him Actions are weighed. Job ix. 13. If God will not withdraw his Anger, the proud Helpers do ftoop under him.

xxvi. 12. By his Understanding he fmiteth thro' the Proud.

xxxi. 23. The Lord plentifully rewardeth the proud Doer.
