P. 210. l. 14.-The 2 Edw. 3. c. 4. E. & I. confirms the 9 Edw. 2. st. 2. and also provides, that sheriffs and bailiffs of fee, shall cause their counties and bailiwicks to be kept by such as have lands therein.

P. 216, l. 10.—By the 20 Geo. 2. c. 37. Eng. all sheriffs of any county, city, &c. shall, at the expiration of their office, turn over to the succeeding sheriff, by indenture and schedule, all such writs and process as shall remain in their hands unexecuted, who shall duly execute and return the same; and in case any such sheriff shall refuse or neglect to turn over such process as aforesaid, he shall make satisfaction by damages and costs to the party aggrieved thereby. But by s. 2. no sheriff shall be liable to be called upon to make a return of any Sheriffs out of writ or process, unless required so to do within 6 months after the expiration of his office.

I. enacts, that 50Geo. 3. c.30. it shall be lawful for the grand jury of each county in Ireland, county of a city, and county of a town, at each Fees of coroners, assizes or presenting term, to present any sum not exceeding 5 guineas for each inquest which any coroner of the county shall have held since the preceding assizes or presenting term; to be paid to the treasurer of such county, and by him to such coroner, proof being first made to the satisfaction of the grand jury of his having made due return of such inquest to said assizes or presenting term: Provided that the money to be so presented, at any one assizes, &c. shall not exceed 40 gui

shall be lawful for the grand jury at any assizes or presenting term, to present any sum not exceeding 3s. by the perch for making, and 1s. 6d. by the perch for repairing footpaths.

P. 266. l. 24.-By the 49 Geo. 3. c. 84. s. 27. I. all affidavits for presentments for forming, levelling, fencing, draining, widening, making, repairing, or otherwise improving any road, (and for the building, repairing, or otherwise improving any bridge, session-house, gaol, or other mason work,) shall be lodged 15 days at the least before the commission day of each assizes, with the secretary of the grand jury; and such secretary shall (provided he shall be ordered by the grand jury at the previous assizes so to do) cause copies of the schedules of such affidavits to be printed and ready for delivery at his office, 3 clear days before each assizes, to such magistrates and overseers of roads, or other public works, as may apply for the same: provided that the number so to be printed do not exceed 25 for each barony or half barony, and 25 for each county of a city, or county of a town. By s. 18. no affidavit for the accounting for the repairs of any road, shall be allowed by the grand jury or by the court at any assizes or presenting term, unless it shall be specially stated in such affidavit, that there is not on either side of any part of any road specified in such affidavit any grip, trench, or drain, without a wall

or other sufficient fence between such grip, &c. and the side of such road. And by s. 19. grand juries are empowered to present for filling up such grips. But the 50 Geo. 3. c. 29. I. further provides (s. 22.) that no accounting affidavit for the expenditure of any public money for any Accounting affiroad, or for any public work, shall be allowed by the davits to state grand jury, or by the court, &c. unless it shall be stated finished 6 days in such affidavit, that the road or work was completed on some day, being not less than 6 clear days previous to the commission day of the assizes or presenting term, or to the first day of the October sessions; nor unless such affidavit be lodged with the secretary of the grand jury previous to the commission day of such assizes, or the first day of such October sessions; of which lodgment the secretary shall make oath in open court.
