THE Compiler of this Collection of Hymns does not feel it necessary to make any apology for adding to the number of Hymnals already in existence. At present, (and for every reason we ought to be thankful that it is so,) none can claim the slightest degree of authority, and it is clearly competent to any individual to do what he can in furtherance of the revival of a more correct Hymnology. The Hymns have been drawn from various sources, and the Compiler has not hesitated to follow in the steps of many of his predecessors, and incorporate a portion of one translation with another, in order to reflect more exactly the meaning of the original. · |
