JAMES ASPERNE, having purchased the entire property of the EUROPEAN MAGAZINE, begs leave to affure its readers in particular, and the public in general, that no efforts shall be wanting on his part, to render it deferving, not only of retaining its prefent honourable station in the public favour, but of a still more extended circulation. This, he is aware, cannot be effected by any fudden or ferious Innovation on the PLAN upon which it has fo long been conducted with general approbation; he fhall, however, confider it incumbent upon him to attempt to add to the variety, as well as utility, of its general contents: and to aid him in this endeavour, he earnestly folicits the communications of ingenious perfons in every department of literature, fcience, and art, to which the most respectful attention fhall be paid. The Editors of the European Magazine have, on a former occafion, pointed out the contributions which they would prefer, and think it not improper to repeat them. They are Effays, Moral and Literary, and fuch as illuftrate dark Paffages of Hiftory; biographical Anecdotes of Men of Eminence, either living or dead; Letters on Erudi tion and Criticifm; original Letters of celebrated Perfons, and Accounts of new Inventions, or remarkable Characters. They therefore flatter themfelves, that fuch as have any useful knowledge to communicate, or any hint that may improve the Mind, polifh the Manners, refine the Tafte, or mend the Heart, will be as glad of fuch an Opportunity of communicating, as the Editors of the European Magazine will be always ready to convey it to the public. It is most earnestly requested, that fuch ladies and gentlemen as may have imperfe& sets of the European Mag zine, will give orders to their respective bookfellers to perfec them, as feveral of the Numbers and Volumes are become scarce, and complete fets, of courfe, very valuable: nor can they ever be re-printed, on account of the heavy expenfe attending fuch an undertaking. Letters for the EDITORS, addreffed to 32, Cornhill, poft paid, will be immediately forwarded. |
