SIR: I transmit herewith a list of balances remaining unsettled for periods of one and three years upon the books of the Treasury. Very respectfully, your obedient servant,

Statement of accounts in the office of the Third Auditor of the Treasury which have remained unsettled, or on which balances appear to have been due more than three years prior to July 1, 1858; furnished in pursuance of the directions contained in the second section of the act of March 3, 1809, entitled "An act further to amend the several acts for the establishment and regulation of the Treasury, War, and Navy Departments.

Quartermaster's department: "Balance, July 15, 1854, remaining of an advance by T. L. Brent, and charged in November, 1853. No account on file.

Subsistence: Balance, October 11, 1854, remaining of the sales of property charged in June, 1853. No account on file.

Quartermaster's department: Balance, June 30, 1856, $87 42.
There is since at his credit, by repayment, $44 95; leaving at
his debit $42 47 of an advance in December, 1853. No account

Barracks and quarters: Amount paid him by J M. Patton in De-
cember, 1852, for his commutation of fuel and quarters, dis-
allowed and charged. No account on file.

Officers' transportation: Balance, July 24, 1854, being amount over-
paid him for his transportation from Fort Constitution to Phila-
delphia in 4th quarter 1853.

Barracks and quarters: Balance, July 24, 1854, being amount paid
him in 3d quarter 1852, and disallowed.

Quartermaster's department: Balance, July 24, 1854, $21 45; since at his credit $14 15. No account on file.

Quartermaster's department: Balance, December 20, 1854, remaining of advances by J. Bold, charged in June, 1853. No account on file.
